A Fan in Beijing Makes Trek Home to Red Sox Nation, Finds Bliss in Front Row

BEIJING -- It took the Boston Red Sox 86 years to win a world championship. It took me flying 34 hours and 13,468 miles to see them.

It all started with an e-mail sent by a Boston friend in the eighth inning of Game 7 of the American League Championship Series with the New York Yankees, with the Red Sox on the verge of going to the World Series. For several years until we moved to Beijing in 2002, our families shared season tickets at Fenway Park on the right-field line, in the first row.

"Can you be here for Game 2 Sunday night?" he wrote.
